Headset Solutions, Making A Difference through their CSI initiatives in 2024

South Africa’s information and communications technology (ICT) environment is characterized by a large and advanced ICT sector, with a growing market and a number of challenges. South Africans, especially in rural areas, face a number of challenges to ICT access, including high internet access costs, connectivity problems, and a lack of technical skills.

As part of our BEE strategy, Headset Solutions assists individuals or organisations in terms of Enterprise Development, Supplier Development and CSI. As a company in the ICT sector, our priority is to meet the education needs through support in the form of ICT equipment, or supporting organisations working in the ICT sector.

Bursaries

We provided bursaries for 8 students who were unable to access other forms of funding for their studies. Headset Solutions supported these students’ studies for a year. We select students who are studying in an ICT-related course or courses beneficial to the ICT sector. The value of the bursaries differed for each student and the ages of students were between 18 and 25. Their institutions had approached us for assistance, and the successful students had their bursary support allocated to their student accounts for 2024.

Learnership for Unemployed Learners

As a proud level 3 BEE contributor, we are committed to playing our part in supporting our learners and students in ways which improve their opportunities in the ICT sector. And hopefully creating a vibrant and future-focused environment for them to thrive.

An external consultant assists our company in identifying learners based on WC EAP (Economically Active Population) demographics. In 2024 we supported 7 learners through an annual program, NQF levels 3-5, which offers end-user computing and business administration courses.  Each learner who began the course at the beginning of 2024 has completed it. Headset Solutions pays the salaries for the learners while they’re undergoing the learnership. Some of the learners are hosted at host companies as we don’t have the space to accommodate them all. At the end of the learnership some of the students are then employed permanently at their host company while others are able to secure employment at other ICT companies.

Tablets for ECD Centre

Headset Solutions was approached by the Early Childhood Development Centre (ECDC) at New Brighton Charles Duna Primary School at Gqeberha. THE ECDC was developed to offer free, high-quality education to children, supported by qualified and trained staff. The ECDC focuses on fostering a love for reading among children aged 0-5. They believe that early literacy programmes dramatically improve the reading abilities of children by Grade 4, addressing a critical issue in South Africa’s education system. The ECDC required tablets to assist their educators to better and more efficiently perform their duties. Headset Solutions were able to provide 14 tablets which eased the teachers’ administrative and teaching responsibilities.
